SANTA CRUZ — The so-called silver tsunami of aging adults has already arrived at Santa Cruz County’s shores, but local leaders say they’re stepping up efforts to address the escalating crisis. The county was recently named an “age-friendly community” by the AARP , a critical step in its work to support the health and wellbeing of older residents while it continues development of a Master Plan on Aging.“The goal of these two complimentary initiatives is to create a community that promotes healthy aging for all,” Alicia Morales, Santa Cruz County Adult and Long Term Care Division director, said during a presentation to the Board of Supervisors earlier this week. “It is an ambitious county-wide effort and cannot be just a government initiative.”According to Morales, one-third of all county residents will be age 60 or older by 2030, which exceeds the already concerning statewide ratio projecting one out of four residents, or about 10.8 million people, to be 60 or older within the same ti...Ask Amy: Why did she react that way? Dear Amy: Recently I complimented a woman after her 60th birthday by saying, “You look good for 60.”She grunted, “What is 60 supposed to look like?”Where did I go wrong?– Bewildered BachelorDear Bewildered: I’m going to sidestep my own observations on why you might be a “bachelor,” and head straight to your bewilderment.Where did you go wrong? Published Mon, 11 Nov 2024 09:27:55 GMT
Since the 2020 presidential election, when Democrats emerged with a razor-thin majority in the Senate, Joe Manchin has been no stranger to his Republican colleagues: schmoozing with them on his houseboat, meeting to discuss concerns about President Joe Biden’s massive spending packages, and proving a consistent ally in derailing the aspirations of both Blue Dog Democrats and left-wing progressives. As the Democrats’ critical 51st vote, the West Virginia senator has repeatedly taken to Fox News to warn his Democratic colleagues about the federal deficit and to air his grievances to the network’s conservative viewership. Manchin’s most recent financial disclosures suggest that those appearances are falling on receptive ears. The senator received tens of thousands of dollars from Fox executives and lawyers from April to June, according to his campaign’s July filing with the Federal Election Commission. Prior to that, Manchin had not received a donation from a Fox employee sin...Latest news
