The details may differ, but it’s a familiar story. The industry changes, and longtime workers find themselves made obsolete and unable to make a living anymore. Arthur Miller’s classic 1949 drama “Death of a Salesman” still has a lot to say to the present day, and African-American Shakespeare Company intends to drive that home with its new production directed by theater veteran and television icon Ted Lange.“I’ve always wanted to do this play, but do it in a way that is relevant, in a way that is contemporary looking, that has the demographics of the world that we live in right now,” says AASC artistic director L. Peter Callender, who stars as Willy Loman. “I wanted to do a play about family, a play about mental health, a play about regentrification, a play about being aged out of work, which are all things that we are dealing with as a society today. These are the topics of this play. And I think the time is right for this type of production of ‘Death of a Salesman.’ It ain&#...

By Arit John, Eva McKend and Aaron Pellish | CNNMinnesota Rep. Dean Phillips formally launched his presidential campaign Friday and filed to run in New Hampshire’s Democratic primary, kicking off his long-shot challenge to President Joe Biden.Speaking aboard his campaign bus in Concord, Phillips said he felt compelled to challenge Biden – whom he called a “terrific president” – over his concerns that the incumbent would lose a general election rematch against former President Donald Trump. The congressman said he tried to encourage Biden to pass the torch and to convince other Democratic candidates to run in the primary. When those efforts failed, he entered the race himself.“It’s time for change. I’m hearing that all around the country,” Phillips told CNN. “This was not about me. But my inability to attract other candidates, to inspire the president to recognize that it is time, compels me to serve my country because it appears that President Joe Biden is going to lose the next ele...

Jeff Walz, No. 17 Louisville enter season with roster revamped with 6 transfers instead of freshmen

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville having another highly-rated recruiting class appears normal at first glance for Jeff Walz. The twist is that just one of the seven newcomers is a freshman, and the longtime Cardinals coach points out that his unusual deep dive into the transfer portal was more about need than a philosophical shift. With many top high school prospects already committed last fall, Walz worked the portal hard this spring with several veteran regulars on the cusp of leaving — only to have to fill a huge vacancy with the surprise departure of All-American guard Hailey Van Lith to defending national champion and top-ranked LSU.Since transfers helped Louisville reach its fourth Final Four in 2022 and the Elite Eight last season, it was the logical choice to restock his roster. It has yielded seasoned talent.“Instead of going after a kid that you think in two years should be ready to play, you just might say, ‘No, I’ll just wait for the portal and get a kid who has college e...
